HDTV Video Format

Though it’s difficult to make mistakes when buying a device of last generation (the characteristics are always on display), sometimes it happens that there is some confusion on the part of those who buy, because still not clear what use actually to be ready to enter the world of high definition.

DTV: DTV when it comes to discussing means of the standard that is the basis of high-definition TV broadcasts, and then the media itself (the TV so to speak).

HDTV-ready/HDTV compatible: in this case we speak of devices enabled to receive transmissions in high definition but they have no decoder or receiver that transmits the signal.

HDTV Monitor: In this category we include both the TV than PC monitors. Again we do not have a receiver or decoder integrated, but we need an appliance part. This category may also include plasma and rear projection.

Integrated HDTV: in this case the device has integrated HD tuner. In any case when we go to buy the package that includes HD programming, we still have a receiver for high definition.

In any case, whether you have a receiver or not, when we go to buy broadcast in high definition, we must remember to ask the receiver to be compatible to those who purchase the service (often taken on loan, otherwise the costs will continue to rise).

We should not forget that there are other technologies (below), which however still have their place because of the small amount of transmissions in high definition:

Analog TV standard (like the ones we have or we’re accustomed to seeing a few years ago in our case) that receive broadcasts over the air classic, satellite or cable.

EDTV: devices that can almost reach higher HD resolution (480p). They can also receive broadcasts in high definition but will not make do with the same quality as older brothers. Some plasma falls into this category.

SDTV: Standard Definition supports 480i and 480p.
