What does HDTV Ready Mean?
When looking to buy the best HDTV, many people get so confused as to whether the super-low-priced TV advertised in their local paper is going to satisfy their HDTV needs. However, some of them don’t educate themselves on what they are getting into and finally end up wasting money on a television that is not HDTV-ready.

The first thing that people are faced with is the resolution. The resolution of HDTV is the total number of pixels on the screen. This is represented by two numbers (usually A x B). The first number shows the horizontal number of pixels and the second number shows the vertical number of pixels.
What Is HDTV Ready ?
HDTV owners have their choices of HDTV from 720p, 1080i and 1080p. These have 720 and 1080 lines of screen resolution respectively. An HDTV is considered HDTV only when it at least has 720 lines of resolution. If a TV is advertised without at least 720 lines ,then you should know that it’s not HDTV ready.
So, if 720 lines is the minimum, does that mean that all TV’s with 720 lines are HDTV ready? The answer is No. The aspect ratio must also be considered.
HDTV Ready? Look at The Aspect Ratio
In order to be HDTV ready, a TV must be able to change the HDTV signal which is broadcast in 16:9 wide screen. This is the aspect ratio. The aspect ratio’s first number means the width of the image and the second number means to the height. Then, what does the aspect ratio have to do with 720 lines of resolution? This is because some manufacturers will claim that their TVs are HDTV ready when they have an aspect ratio of 1024 x 720. This TV passes our “720″? threshold, however it displays a distorted picture unless you can adjust it and cut it down. This eliminates the best part of the HDTV. To be a true HDTV ready picture of 720 lines, the aspect ratio must be at least 1280 x 720 pixels.
