After reading reviews of Consumer Reports and Cnet, and feedback from owners of the GFA board, I knew I wanted a Samsung LCD. But what? 550, 630 and 650 are the most popular, and all that falls in my price range.
First, analyzing the 550th Great TV and the lowest price. The picture quality is first class, but do not have the 120 Hz technology by Samsung and regulatory system (called AMP) to reduce moviment Judd. On the other side of vision, I could see a difference in the picture between these features, and the difference in price was not much enough to climb the 6-series.
Note that 120 Hz, and AMP are two different things. AMP, in turn, may disable (or set to low, medium or high), you can not turn off 120Hz unless they are in game mode. I love AMP low – to my eyes, which improves the image without too smooth and video-like.
Both the 650 and 630 television sets are fantastic, and it would be a great choice. The main difference between the two is the glassiness of the screen – the 650 has a glossy screen, the 630 is an opaque screen (basically the same as the 550, but with a little ‘brighter). I have a very bright room with lots of windows. The 650 has served as a mirror, reflecting everything to be a serious distraction – you can see on the screen in dark scenes. The 630 was the compromise perfct – better image quality that the 550, but much less Brilliant 650.
The advantage of glossy screen is to give more “pop” and saturation for the image. The colors are deeper, the blacks are richer and the picture quality is a bit ‘better. If I was using the television in a dark environment (like a basement), I would go to 650. However, given the brightness of the room, the 630 was (for me) the best option.
I was told the csound 6-series is a little better than the 5-series. This was not a problem for me since switching off the TV speakers and run the sound through a receiver. If you plan to use the TV speakers you may want to listen to both groups to see if you feel the difference.
Very satisfied with the series so far. You have to do some adjustment to get the perfect picture, but the menus make it easier to do. You can find that configuration settings in multiple tables really help to set up in the right direction.
Other advantages of the 630 are more muted touch of red on the bezel. I’m not a big fan of the color red, and is therefore less visible favor me.Besides it has a nice remote control with buttons for easy retrieval.
I am using the receiver with a Denon 1909 DVD player Oppo 983H, Series 3000 and KEF speakers. Everything works well together and are continually wowed by its great looks and sound quality.
